Feathers on the Gel Plate
What you'll do
Using the versatile gel plate, we will explore the intricate textures of feathers to create a personal series of professional-grade prints.
This workshop is as much about storytelling as it is about technique. We encourage you to bring in feathers you’ve found yourself—whether from a favorite trail, a family garden, or a memorable trip—to create work that is deeply connected to a specific time or place.
Through a layered process of negative impressions and ethereal ghost prints, you’ll learn to capture the fine details of your found objects. To finish your pieces, we’ll move beyond the plate, using pencil work to define shadows, ground your composition, and add refined, hand-drawn depth to your unique botanical series.

Facilitator
Hanna Wood began her creative journey with a foundational year abroad in Sweden, attending a specialised Arts School. This early immersion preceded her formal studies at Queensland University of Technology, where she initially focused on theatre and stage performance. Her professional development was further shaped by a multifaceted role at Doggett Street Art Studio, where she gained hands-on industry experience in archival framing, exhibition installation, and artist liaison.
These experiences, alongside work with the University of Queensland Art Museum and various community projects, fostered a broad, socially engaged practice. A pivotal period teaching visual art in South Korea transitioned Hanna’s focus toward arts education, finding a natural balance between her own creative work and her passion for teaching others. Today, she maintains a dual practice as a Visual Arts Educator and as Principal Artist at Curlew Arts, bridging the gap between classroom pedagogy and people-centric initiatives. This leadership allows her to use creative practice to foster connection and support communities to share stories of identity and place. Her contemporary studio practice is primarily centred on printmaking.
